Updated for 2023! This 8-hour workshop will prepare HazMat technicians to respond to an emergency involving batteries including conducting a risk- assessment and developing an incident action plan (IAP). Battery families will include lithium-metal, lead-acid, nickel, and lithium-ion. The afternoon will focus on HazMat Technician level tactics a lithium-ion incidents including establishing control zones, selecting PPE, fire control options, battery specific air monitoring, overpacking damaged batteries, and safety considerations. The workshop will include a mix of lecture, tabletop experiments, video case studies, and group discussion.
