Presentation Abstract:
The Community Wildfire Mitigation Best Practices course for the Fire Service encompasses all 12 original training modules, addressing a wide range of topics, from Community Wildfire Protection Plans to Community Engagement. In addition, it now includes extra case studies, detailed tactical decision-making information, scenarios and wildfire mitigation planning tailored to the fire service professionals and their professional development.
This workshop is designed to help participants navigate the unique challenges faced by wildland-urban interface communities. The course will guide you in discerning ineffective practices, making room for more effective approaches, with a strong emphasis on on-the-ground mitigation activities.
The short course is open to all at no cost, and conference registration is not a requirement for participation. Those attending both days will receive a certificate of completion for the 2-day short course. If you're interested in obtaining the Incident Qualification and Certification System (IQCS) N9073 Training Certificate, you'll need to complete pre-work, actively participate in both days of training, and submit a Mitigation Action Plan (MAP) within two weeks of course completion. Further details will be provided during the course.
The final speaker cadre will comprise 4-5 Mitigation Subject Matter experts from across the US.
Learning Objectives:
- Apply lessons from the course to address real-world community wildfire mitigation challenges.
- Deconstruct ineffective community wildfire mitigation practices to create space for more effective approaches.
- Enhance preparedness in addressing wildfire hazard mitigation challenges within your jurisdiction.
